Joseph W. Votaw III

The founding member of Votaw & Schwarz, Joseph W. Votaw, III, was admitted to practice law in Indiana in 1968. He graduated from Salmon P. Chase College of Law which, at the time, was located at the YMCA in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He completed his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Indiana University in 1963.  His 55-plus-year career includes being an exceptional criminal defense attorney and expert civil litigator.  He also served as the Seventh Judicial Circuit Prosecuting Attorney in Indiana from 1975 to 1982.  He was acting City Attorney for the City of Lawrenceburg from 2004-2012.  He continues to handle estate planning and probate matters as well as serves as the attorney for the Dearborn County Health Department.  Mr. Votaw has lived in Dearborn County for the majority of his life and has been married to his wife for 46 years. They share 6 children and numerous grandchildren.
