Wrongful Death

Wrongful death law is a legal framework that allows the surviving family members or representatives of a deceased person to file a civil lawsuit when someone's death was caused by the wrongful, negligent, or intentional actions of another party. Examples of actions that could lead to wrongful death include a person being negligent in some manner such as operating a vehicle, medical malpractice, intentional harm or product liability. A wrongful death lawsuit is separate from any criminal charges the defendant may face. A person can be acquitted in criminal court but still be found liable in a wrongful death civil suit.
